![]() ![]() This can be downloaded from the FTDI web siteĮven the first versions of the Flash Tune interface used the same FTDI chip, so it is possible to reprogram them using the FT_Prog utility. You can also change the information and save it back to the device etc. There is a free programming utility available from FTDI called FT_Prog, this allows you to connect to the FTDI "USB Serial Converter" and look at the configuration that Flash Tune have programmed into the device. You can verify that this is the cables they are using by plugging in your flash tune interface and then go to "Device Manager", expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section, then find the entry for "USB Serial Converter", you can right click on this item and select "Properties" to verify that it is just the FTDI cable. They program the cables with their information and crimp the plug on the end and that is basically it, then they sell them for hundreds of dollars. Here is a link to the cables that they use: And yet they claim to be making a loss on this "upgrade"?!?!?! I would say this is totally unacceptable when they could have supplied these at very little cost to themselves. It was a selling point.īasically the harness that they charge $200 for and are now trying to force us to buy is a standard FTDI cable worth $15.įlash tune use a standard FTDI USB Serial Converter Cable, these cables cost $15-$20 each (less when purchase in bulk) and yet they charge you $400 for them?!?!?! And not only that they are charging guys $100 to upgrade. They could have imposed this limitation ages ago, but didn't because they didn't care. FlashTune has been active in listening to the R6/R1 community and they very well knew their kits were being used for multiple flashes. People have been buying the R6 and R1 flash kits and flashing all of their friends ECUs to recoup the costs. The thing is, FlashTune knew their kits were being used like this for years. The very design of the product offers the impression that it is universal to any and all 300s, unrestricted, and unlimited. There is no indication anywhere on their website that the kit is limited to one ECU. People will continue to purchase their kit assuming they can flash other people's ECUs, and rightfully so. That ability has now been revoked AFTER the fact, without notice or consent.Īdditionally, they still don't advertise the fact that this ability has been removed from the product. These customers paid the full price of the product with this ability in mind. Customers who previously purchased the product, under the presumption that they could flash unlimited ECUs, had the ability to flash unlimited ECUs. When it comes to tuning a fuel-injected motorcycle, you’ve got two choices: You can install a piggyback module, like a Power Commander, or get the ECU flashed by a company like FlashTune.
